Delta State police command arrest clergyman over his constant delivering of false prophesies

POLICE in Delta State have arrested self-acclaimed prophet Pastor Bright Ossai in Asaba and look set to charge him to court over his serial fake prophecies and his constant defrauding of unsuspecting members of the public.

Pastor Ossai, 45, who is a member of a popular deliverance church in Asaba, has allegedly duped many unsuspecting members through a litany of prophecies that were not true. Muhammad Mustafa, the Delta State police commissioner confirmed that the prophet was arrested following a petition submitted by some of his victims.

He added:  “The police are holding the prophet based on a petition against him and his fake prophecies, including ways of defrauding members of the public. He is currently being interrogated by police detectives at the state Criminal Investigation Division handling the petition.”

Prophet Godfrey Irevbude, the prophet in charge of the church, added: “We discovered he was denting the image of our church with fake prophecies, so we resolved at the board meeting to write the police to look into his activities. He conducts deliverance without my knowledge, many of the prophecies he gave were never true.

“I made him an official of the church, instead of doing what the bible says, he started prophesying to people. Even when my wife was pregnant, he said she will deliver a baby boy at the end, my wife delivered a baby girl, which was what I begged God for."

He added that Pastor Ossai later resulted to threatening members’ lives including those he took money from, so the church wrote the police. Pastor Ossai has subsequently been arrested and has confessed to his crimes in a statement he gave the police.

Pastor Ossai said: “I’m very sorry, it is the devil’s work. I wanted to get rich and be well known like other great men of God.”

Mr Mustafa said the suspect will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigations. Sources alleged that apart from his fake prophecies, the suspect constantly sleeps with female church members and those who decline his advances were confronted with frightening prophecies.
