Samuel Kalu completes €8m move to French side Bordeaux signing five year contract with them

NIGERIAN winger Samuel Kalu has completed his €8m move to French side Bordeaux after he signed a five year deal with the club that sees him join the Girondins as a direct replacement for Brazilian Malcolm who has moved to Barcelona.

Kalu, 20, joins from Belgian side KAA Gent where he has played since 2016 after signing from AS Trencin of Slovakia. Since moving to France, Kalu, who still had two years on his contract,  has scored 10 goals and provided 16 assists in 55 appearances for Gent.

Bordeaux chairman Stephane Martin, said: “The transfer of Kalu has been completed. We’re now only waiting for his work permit.”

However, there are fears that his paperwork may not be ready in time for him to feature in the Uefa Europa League against Mariupol taking place on Thursday this week. Bordeaux recently lost their most prized asset Malcolm to Barcelona, who joined the Catalan giants for €30m and have since been searching for a similar creative player.

Managed by former Chelsea and Spurs midfielder Gus Poyet, Bordeaux  finished sixth in the French top flight last season and have European ambitions. Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr, played for Bordeaux between 1977 and 1989 and coached the team for six seasons between 1990 and 1996.
