Nigerian midfielder Tosin Kehinde leaves Manchester United for Portuguese side Feirense

HIGHLY- rated Nigerian midfielder Tosin Kehinde has left Manchester United and signed a four year contract with Portuguese side CD Feirense as he seeks first team action that will get him into the Super Eagles.

Kehinde, 20, was born in Lagos but raised in the UK and is eligible to play for both Nigeria or England but has already committed his future to the Super Eagles. He has yet to make a senior appearance for United, although he has trained with Jose Mourinho’s first-team squad and in the run-up to the World Cup, he visited the Super Eagles camp when the team was in London.

Super Eagles head coach had invited Kehinde to camp to train with the team but Manchester United kicked against the idea ordering the player back to Manchester. According to Manchester United, they need him to resume training ahead of preparations for a youth game taking place later on that evening.

At the time, a Manchester United spokesman said Kehinde would have been allowed to stay with the Nigerian team if he was formally invited but that was not the case, hence he was asked to return to the club. Now, Kehinde has left Manchester United to feature for Feirense, where he will fill the void created by the departure of Oghenekaro Etebo to Stoke City, it is expected that he will be called up again soon by Mr Rohr.

Kehinde joined Feirense on a free transfer but Manchester United are due some form of compensation from the Portuguese side.  His move brings to an end talks about a move to Norwegian side SK Brann, who were the early front runners for his signature despite interest from another Portuguese side Rio Ave.
