Rohr keeps an eye on QPR duo Eze and Osayi-Samuel as they both score in pre-season friendly

SUPER Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has begun monitoring Queens Park Rangers (QPR) Nigerian-born youngsters Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ebere Eze with a view to inviting them to camp if they prove their worth in the English Championship.

Both players featured for their club over the weekend in a pre-season friendly in which QPR beat German side Union Berlin 3-0, with Osayi-Samuel scoring the second goal and Eze the third from the spot. Eze, 19, is a highly rated playmaker and trained with the Super Eagles last year at the insistence of head Coach Rohr.

Nigeria will soon regroup for the African Cup of Nations 2019 qualifiers when the Super Eagles take on Seychelles and there is a likelihood that Coach Rohr may be set to invite at least one of the players. Following the World Cup, Coach Rohr is keen on rebuilding the team with young players and is keenly searching for new blood.

One football federation official said: "Most people don’t know how Rohr works. He has information on almost all Nigerian players doing well at their respective clubs and Eze even trained with us in London.

"I can’t say for now if they will make the team for the Seychelles game, maybe Eze could make it. It all depends on what Rohr think he can add to the team if called up.”

Already, Eze has been assured that he will be given a chance with the England youth set up and if he does well he will progress through the ranks to play for the senior national team in the nearest future. However, Mr Rohr is certain to pursue the player more vigorously in what is likely to be a tug of war.
