Two Oyo senators meet with Governor Ajimobi in Ibadan to affirm their loyalty to the APC

OYO State senators Adesoji Akanbi and Abdulfatai Buhari have visited Governor Abiola Ajimobi to pledge their loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after it was alleged that they had both left the party along with several of their colleagues yesterday.

Yesterday morning, about 15 APC senators left the APC, with the bulk of them joining the main opposition the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Senator Akanbi, representing the Oyo South Senatorial District was originally listed as one of the defectors but to disassociate himself from the move, he and Senator Buhari, representing Oyo North Senatorial District visited Governor Ajimobi yesterday to emphasise that they are still in the APC.

Senator Monsurat Sunmonu representing Oyo Central Senatorial District was one of the defectors,  pointing out that the crisis within the APC made her to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a political party loyal to former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Senator Akanbi for his part pointed out that his name was wrongly mentioned by the senate president Senator Bukola Saraki.

While visiting Governor Ajimobi in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Senators Akanbi and Buhari joined him to celebrate one of his senior special assistants, Dayo Iyaniwura who marked his birthday. They used the solidarity visit to pledge their continued loyalty to the APC.

Meanwhile, Senator Lanre Tejuoso representing the Ogun Central Senatorial District has said he did not defect to the PDP.  He added that although he had left the APC, he was still making consultations on which political party to align himself with.

In a tweet, Senator Tejuoso wrote: “Dear Friends, I hereby confirm that I have left the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, I am yet to align with any political party as consultations are still ongoing. All politics is local. I remain deeply rooted in Ogun State politics. Watch this space.”
