Kogi hoodlums destroy two girl's secondary schools refurbished by Senator Dino Melaye

HOODLUMS in Kogi State have vandalised two secondary schools renovated by Kogi West's Senator Dino Melaye that were due to be commissioned today as the political temperature in the state keeps rising.

Highly controversial and always in the news, Senator Melaye, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, published a video last week in which he announced while singing and dancing, that he would leave the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition Peoples democratic Party (PDP). Over recent months, he has had ruining battles with the APC leadership, particularly Governor Yahaya Bello and in one instance, he jumped out of a moving police vehicle taking him into custody.

Following his decision to leave the APC, PDP's Kogi West Elders’ Forum, has said it will vehemently reject any attempt to impose Senator Melaye as the sole senatorial candidate on the party in 2019. Shaibu Momoh, the chairman of the forum, said that if Senator Melaye was allowed to contest in any free and fair election in the state now, the party would be defeated as he will be a liability and not an asset to the party in the state.

In what is seen as a bid to repair his battered image,. Senator Melaye helped refurbish Government Girls Secondary School, Sarkin Noma and Lokongoma Secondary School in Lokoja Local Government Area. They were due for commissioning this morning but have been razed down and vandalised by yet to be identified hoodlums.

Both girl's schools were among the 69 projects the Senator had arranged for inauguration as part of his three-year stewardship. Yesterday, some thugs had issued a statement threatening to stop the commissioning of the school, warning the senator not to come to Kogi and it appears that they did indeed carry out their threat.
