Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption chairman says they are waiting for Fayose

ANTI-graft officials are waiting for Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose's tenure to end on October 16 so they can arrest him and charge him to court according to Professor Itse Say the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (Pacac).

This morning the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec), announced the results of Ekiti's governorship election that held yesterday, declaring Dr Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner. Inec's official results declared Dr Fayemi the winner with 197,459 votes against the 178,121 votes secured by deputy governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka.

Despite being backed to the hilt by Governor Fayose, Professor Eleka only managed to win in four of Ekiti State's 16 local government areas. Their tenure will last until October 16 when the immunity from arrest they enjoy in office end and it is expected that security agencies will swoop immediately after this.

Professor Sagay said that Governor Fayose has committed a lot of sins during the last four years and will not get away with them. According to Professor Sagay, Governor Fayose, through his language, attitude and actions, has been sinning against God especially by purportedly wishing death on President Muhammadu Buhari during his illness.

“Fayose has been sinning against God in the last four years. Because, when you pray and gloat over other people’s illness, when others are praying and expressing their good wishes but you are praying for others to be sick, mocking and gloating, then you are forgetting that there is a God who is listening, seeing and supervising all things and one day, you will be visited by your sins.

“Fayose has committed a lot of sins in office in his attitude, in his language, in his behaviour and actions. I have no doubt that one day, he will be called to account for his actions because he cannot do all those things and get away with it.”

Over the last three years, Governor Fayose has emerged as the leading opposition figure to the government, becoming the de facto spokesman for the PDP. His constant attacks against the policies of President Buhari have made him a thorn in the side of the PDP.

However, anti-graft bodies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are waiting to question him regarding his role in the 2014 Ekiti State governorship elections during which N4.68bn ($12.93m) was allegedly shared between him and several others. Former defence minister Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has already pleaded guilty to the offence and refunded his share of the money collected.

According to Senator Obanikoro, he was asked by the former national security adviser Col Sambo Dasuki to deliver the funds to Governor Fayose in 2014. Already the EFCC has recovered several choice properties worth N1.8bn allegedly purchased with proceeds of the funds located at Lagos and Abuja from Governor Fayose and his sister Moji Ladeji.
