Armed gunmen kidnap monarch's wife and driver in Akoko area of Ondo State

UNKNOWN gunmen have kidnapped Olori Olukemi Agunloye the wife of  traditional ruler the Alauga of Auga-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State along with his driver.

In what is now becoming a regular occurrence, the heavily-armed gunmen abducted the monarch's wife and it is expected that they will be making ransom demands soon. It is gathered that the queen and the driver were abducted yesterday morning between Auga and Ise Akoko while she was on her way to Ugbe-Akoko in the same local government area.

Oba Samuel Agunloye said passers-by's who saw his abandoned car conveying the victims on the road, contacted him about the abduction, adding that all efforts to reach them on their mobile phones failed. In the past, the families of traditional rulers have been targeted by kidnappers, who see them as an easy source of money.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Razak Rauf the area commander in charge of Akokoland, said the command had dispatched more officers to the forest along Auga/Ise/Ugbe Akoko to rescue the kidnapped monarch’s wife and driver. He called on the inhabitants of the communities to help the police by providing necessary information of any strange movement in the domain.
