Senegalese fans show unprecedented touch of class by cleaning up stadium after their victory

SENEGALESE football fans added a touch of class to the ongoing World Cup in Russia by opting to clear up the Otkrytie Arena Stadium in Moscow after their team's Group H match against Poland which the Lions of Teranga won 2-1 yesterday.

In what was the first African victory at the tournament, Senegal clinched all three points in the game thanks to an unfortunate Russian own goal from Thiago Cionek in the 37th minute and a second half winner from Mbaye Niang in the 60th minute. Although Russia pulled one back through Grzegorz Krychowiak in the 86th minute, Senegal managed to hold out for Africa's first victory at the tournament.

Adding a sheer touch of class to their victory, after dancing to celebrate the win, the Senegalese fans took it upon themselves to clean up the stadium after the game. Going round with bin bags after the match, the Senegalese fans cleared all the debris and plastic from the stands of Spartak Moscow's 45,000 capacity Otkrytie Arena.

Their actions received a lot of praise on social media as they showcased their ability to be humble and helpful in victory. Russian authorities have praised the fans for their act, which saw them cleaning up drink and food packaging after the game.

In contrast, Polish fans filtered out of the stadium in disgust after losing the opener of what had looked to be an easy draw. A number of local people applauded the fans for their actions, claiming it was a mark of respect that other nations should replicate.

At the Mordovia Arena in Saransk, Japanese fans did the same thing, cleaning the stadium up after their team beat Colombia 2-1 in their opening game. Japan and Senegal meet on Sunday June 24 at the Ekaterinburg Arena, in what is expected to result in the stadium being left in an immaculate condition after the game.
