Asisat Oshoala says female footballers should have been allowed to model new Nike kit for maximum effect

SUPER Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has faulted the Nigerian Football Federation (HFF) and sports giant Nike for the way they unveiled the Super Eagles' World Cup jerseys saying that female footballers should have been allowed to model the new kits.

With the World Cup kicking off yesterday, the Super Eagles have turned heads with their chevron-patterned, two-tone green playing kit, voted the favourite of all the jerseys on show at the World Cup this year. Most football followers believe that Nigeria has the best jersey of all the 32 nations participating in the World Cup and it is thus no surprise that demand for the kit has been huge.

Arguably the most stylish team in the World Cup based on their playing strip, Nigeria has upped the ante ahead of the tournament kick-off with some visually stunning additions to their wardrobes. To add to the image of Nigeria being the fashionistas of the World Cup, the native green and white attire which the team arrived in has also excited everyone.

However, Asisat the African Women's Player of the Year for the third year running, said she believes the Super Falcons should have modelled the Eagles home and away jerseys during the official unveiling. According to Asisat, 23, this would have had greater effect as with female models, the world would have truly been able to see how beautiful the Nike jerseys are.

Although the kits will have a female variant too, none of Nigeria's women's teams have appeared or modelled in the jerseys so far. NFF officials unveiled the jerseys with some selected Nigerian entertainment stars few months ago in London.
