Onyeka out of today's game against Mali as he leaves Marrakech camp and returns to Brentford

BRENTFORD midfielder Frank Onyeka has become the latest Super Eagle to leave the national team training camp in Morocco and return to his club for treatment on an injury after he pulled out of tonight's game against Mali and returned to London.

On Friday, Onyeka played the full 90 minutes when Nigeria beat Ghana 2-1 in a friendly at the Grande Stade de Marrakech in Morocco. He had been on course to feature in the second game against Mali tonight but he has apparently picked up a knock in training and has thus had to fly back to Brentford for treatment, hoping to be fit for the weekend's league game.

Onyeka now follows in the wake of Fulham's Calvin Bassey, who had to return to London yesterday after being ruled unfit buy the medical team. With Onyeka absent, interim coach Finidi George will have to turn to one of Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika, Hatayspor’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, or Antwerp’s Alhassan Yusuf to partner Wilfred Ndidi in central midfield.

In the first game, the Brentford midfielder pit in an impressive performance against the Ghanaians, topping up his good performance at the recent Africa Cup of Nations. It is expected that Finidi will stick to his 3-5-2 formation again today, with any changes from the first match being like-for-like substitutions.

Predicted line-up 3-5-2:

Stanley Nwabali

Bright Osayi-Samuel

Bruno Onyemaechi

Chigozie Awaziem

Kenneth Omeruo

Semi Ajayi

Wilfred Ndidi

Raphael Onyedika

Alex Iwobi

Kelechi Iheanacho

Cyriel Dessers
