Man United step up bid to sign Osimhen after humiliating defeat in Manchester derby

ENGLISH Premier League giants Manchester United have joined the ranks if clubs desperate to bring Victor Osimhen to the UK this summer after a recent humiliating 1-3 defeat by rivals Manchester City over the weekend exposed the weakness of their forward line.

On Sunday, the blue half of Manchester was celebrating after they beat the red side of the city 3-1, taking City up top second in the table and pushing United down to sixth place. With putting in a bid for the title this season now out of the question, Man United are preparing for the next campaign and hope that having a proven goal scorer like Osimhen in their ranks  will help.

Already, Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, have been on the tail of Osimhen, with French giants Paris Saint-Germain interested too. It appears that Napoli are resigned to selling their prize asset this year and the situation is now more pressing as Manchester United have more money to spend with the recent arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe as a co-owner at the club.

PSG on the other hand are targeting Osimhen as a replacement for Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, who is set to leave the club in the summer. Osimhen, who has scored 13 goals and provided four assists across all competitions this season, has a release clause of around $120m to $130m in his contract.

One of the big problems Man United face is that they lack the requisite firepower upfront as they have only scored 37 goals this season, compared with 64 for Liverpool, the 62 of Manchester City and 68 for Arsenal. Osimhen once rejected a chance to join the club under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but this time around, the club is planning to pull out all the stops to secure his services.
