National Assembly leaders pay morale-boosting visit to Super Eagles ahead of Angola clash

NATIONAL Assembly leaders have made moral boosting visit to the Super Eagles team hotel in Abidjan ahead of their quarter final clash against Angola today with the senate president and deputy speaker of the House of Representatives dropping in.

Later this afternoon, the Eagles will lock horns with Angola's Black Panthers as both teams search for a spot in the semi finals of the ongoing African Cup of Nations. With several other big teams like Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Cameroon and Egypt already eliminated, Nigeria is the highest ranked team left in the competition and the favourites to now lift the trophy.

In an attempt to lift the spirits of the players before the game, senate president Senator Godswill Akpabio and deputy speaker if the House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, dropped into the team hotel today. Jackson Udom, Senator Akpabio's spokesman, said that the National Assembly delegation will stay to watch the match at the iconic Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny.

He added the attendance of National Assembly leaders has shown the collective commitment of the government to rallying behind the Super Eagles. Nigeria, who are the highest ranked team left in the tournament have won the African Cup of Nations three times, while Angola, who are the lowest ranked side remaining in the competition, have never lifted the trophy before.
