Wilfred Ndidi resumes training as Buhari accepts to host Super Eagles at Aso Rock on May 29

SUPER Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has received two pieces of good news this morning as midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has resumed training and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari will host the team on May 29.

Ndidi, 21, is arguably Nigeria's best player at the moment, having established himself as the best ball winner in the English Premiership. He, however, suffered a hamstring injury while playing for his club Leicester City in a league game against Crystal Palace on April 28 and has been out for three weeks.

Named in the 30-man provisional World Cup squad, Ndidi has resumed swimming and gym work and is hopeful of featuring in some of the pre-tournament friendly games. Mr Rohr has identified Ndidi as one of the key players in his squad and handed him starts in all the Super Eagles 2018 World Cup qualifiers apart from the game against Algeria in Uyo early on in the tournament.

One NFF official said: Ndidi is doing very, very well. He is recovering very well and all the worries are over now.

"It is confirmed that he will go to the World Cup. He has not started training on the pitch but he’s doing treadmill workouts and swimming exercises."

He added that the Super Eagles players are scheduled to pay President Buhari a visit at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on May 29, before jetting out to England to play a friendly against the Three Lions on June 2. After the Wembley friendly Coach Rohr will announce his final list of 23 and then head to Austria to set up camp and then on June 11 the team is expected to land in Russia and prepare for the opening game of the 2018 World Cup against Croatia on June 16 at the Kaliningrad Stadium.

Nigeria will open her training camp on May 22 in Uyo before a friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Port Harcourt on May 28. This match will mark the partnership between the Rivers State government and La Liga giants Real Madrid to set up an academy in Port Harcourt.
