Action Alliance Party denies Uche Nwosu the opportunity to stand for governor on its platform

LEADERS of the Action Alliance Party (AAP) have rejected Uche Nwosu the son-in-law of Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha as its gubernatorial candidate for next February's elections.

Mr Nwosu was purportedly elected at the All Progressives Congress (APC) convention as its gubernatorial candidate but the party submitted the name of his rival Senator Hope Uzodinma to the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec). Last month, an Owerri high court presided over by Justice Kemakolam Ojiako, upheld the prayers of Imo State deputy governor Prince Eze Madumere, annulling the election of Uche Nwosu as the APC gubernatorial candidate.

Consequently, Mr Nwosu is reported to have left the ruling APC and joined the AAP on whose platform he is expected to run for Imo State governor. However, Tunde Anifowose-Kelani, the AAP national chairman said that the party has rejected Mr Nwosu as the gubernatorial candidate of the party in Imo State.

According to Mr Anifowose-Kelani, Mr Nwosu was yet to become a registered member of the party. He said for this reason, the former chief of staff to Governor Okorocha, cannot be recognised as the party’s standard-bearer in Imo State for the forthcoming general elections.

Mr Anifowose-Kelani added:  “Uche Nwosu is not yet a member of our party and cannot come through the back door to be a gubernatorial candidate of the party in Imo state. People of such pedigree should know better than junk politicking which would not help towards 2019.”

He further pointed out that the party had rules and regulations guiding its operation and that in order to become a registered member there were due process such person must follow. Mr Anifowose-Kelani advised that if Uche Nwosu really wants to be a registered member of Action Alliance Party, he should do the needful.
