Man United add to the controversy surrounding Osimhen by making a formal enquiry about him

ENGLISH Premier League giants Manchester United have added to the controversy surrounding Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen by making an enquiry for his services to his Turkish clubside Galatasaray.

Over recent weeks, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Osimhen's fate with north London sides Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsenal both enquiring about signing him. Galatasaray have however, requested a fee of no less than €150m for Osimhen, which has surprisingly proven to be a stumbling block so far.

Arsenal were said to have offered at least two players in exchange for Osimhen but it does not appear the two clubs have been able to reach an agreement. Spurs for their part are said to be considering several less expensive options after Galatasaray appeared to be adamant that they would not sell as the north London club's asking price.

Now, Man United have submitted an enquiry about Osimhen as they consider another move for a striker before the summer transfer window closes. FootballFanCast reports that United have contacted Galatasaray to ask about the possibility of signing Osimhen, although the enquiry does not mean that a bid has been made or that a transfer is close.

Michael Carrick's side will open their campaign away to Hull City on Saturday, 22 August and Man United know that to challenge the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool for the title, they need to be prolific in front of goal. Osimhen, 27, remains one of the most wanted centre forwards in Europe after another strong season in Istanbul where he scored 22 goals and provided eight assists in 33 appearances for Galatasaray last season.

United's enquiry gives the club a chance to understand what a deal would cost before deciding whether to take the next step. Galatasaray paid Napoli €75m for him in July 2025 and gave him a four-year contract, with the agreement including a guaranteed net salary of €15m per season, plus a €1m loyalty bonus and €5m per season for image rights.

This contract runs until 2029, although Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek has said that the deal does not contain a release clause. Any interested club therefore has to negotiate directly with the Turkish champions.

Reports put Galatasaray's asking price at about €150m, while the Turkish club has also rejected a reported €130m offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. Manchester United have already spent money on their squad this summer adding Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos to their squad to join Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko upfront.

Yet, the striker position has become an issue ahead of the opening match as Sesko has been dealing with an injury and did not feature in Man United's final pre-season schedule. Mbeumo is expected to carry part of the central attacking burden if Sesko is unavailable, while Marcus Rashford's future is still uncertain after his loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona.

Osimhen would give United a different type of striker as he combines pace, strength and movement behind defenders with a strong record in front of goal. His goals and assists helped Galatasaray win the Turkish league last season, while he also added seven goals in the Champions League as the club reached the knockout rounds for the first time in over a decade.
