Forest become the latest European club looking to sign Nigerian teenage striker Agbejoye

ENGLISH Premier League side Nottingham Forest has joined the ranks of European clubs looking to sign Nigerian teenage sensation Abdoulaye Agbejoye following his recent exploits in the ongoing West African U21tournament in Ivory Coast.

Agbejoye, 18, who currently plays for Nigerian side Grassrunners FC, has been eyed by several European sides for a few months. Earlier this year, the winger underwent trials at AIK Stockholm and Hannover 96 and the experience of training with the two sides will no doubt be invaluable.

Touted to be a prodigious talent, Agbejoye's technique and skills  attracted the attention of Manchester City scouts and coaches last month, who invited him for trials. If he impresses and convince the coaches, Agbejoye could get his European career off to a flying start with a man City contract.

Currently playing for the Flying Eagles at the West African football Union (Wafu) U21 tournament in Ivory Coast, where Nigeria has reached the final, Agbejoye, scored a spot kick in the semi-final victory over the hosts the Young Elephants. According to British tabloid newspaper The Sun, these latest heroics have caught the attention of Nottingham Forest, who could be planning a move before the current transfer window closes.

Agbejoye is regarded as one of Nigeria's most promising strikers after a remarkable campaign in the Nigeria Youth League Cup, where he scored 19 goals in 20 league matches. Nottingham Forest sent scouts to monitor his performances in Nigeria, while German Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have also been tracking his progress closely in recent months.

However, Forest are believed to be in pole position as they look to beat their European rivals to the signature of the highly-rated youngster. Forest view Agbejoye as a long-term investment, believing he possesses the attributes and potential to develop into a top-level striker.

Nottingham Forest are also believed to be leveraging the presence of Super Eagles duo Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina in their bid to persuade the youngster to choose the club ahead of other interested teams. With interest from clubs in England and Germany continuing to intensify, the young striker will be eager to maintain his impressive form and continue his development in the game.
