Everton close in on signing young Nigeria-eligible striker Tyrique George from Chelsea

ENGLISH Premier league giants Everton are closing in on signing Nigeria-eligible striker Tyrique George from Chelsea before the current transfer window closes as part of an ambitious plan to strengthen their team ahead of the forthcoming season.

George, 20, who was born in  London to a Ghanaian mother and a Nigerian father, signed a new three year contract with Chelsea at the start of the 2004/05 season. On 2 February 2026, he joined Everton on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent and it appears that the Merseysiders are now exercising that right.

Upon moving to west London, George enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Chelsea during the 2024/25 season before joining Everton on loan in search of regular first-team football. Despite showing promise at Stamford Bridge, the talented youngster found opportunities limited due to Chelsea's wealth of attacking options, prompting his temporary move to the Toffees.

His loan spell, however, proved challenging too as George failed to register a goal in 11 Premier League appearances for Everton last season.  Nevertheless, Everton manager David Moyes is understood to remain convinced by George's long-term potential and is keen to retain his services on a permanent basis.

According to sports journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Everton are now nearing an agreement with Chelsea for the permanent transfer of the highly-rated attacker, with negotiations expected to accelerate as the summer transfer window progresses. George's arrival would provide another attacking option for Everton as the club seeks to build on the progress made last season.

Everton view the versatile forward as a player capable of developing into an important member of the squad over the coming years. For George, a permanent switch would offer the opportunity to establish himself with regular playing time and continue his development at the highest level.

His consistent performances could also strengthen his chances of earning international recognition. Although George has represented England at youth level, he remains eligible to play for Nigeria because he has not yet made a senior competitive appearance for the Three Lions.
