English Championship side Bristol City sign Nigerian defensive midfielder Gibson Yah

ENGLISH Championship side Bristol City have signed a four year deal with Nigeria-eligible anchorman Gibson Yah as part of a major squad-strengthening exercise ahead of the 20206/07 season.

Yah, 22, who was born in Amsterdam to Nigerian parents, is a highly rated defensive midfielder, who is attracting the attention of several English clubsides. Already, fellow Championship side Portsmouth has made enquiries about his services in an attempt to buy him from his current Dutch club FC Volendam.

After finishing last season in mid table, Bristol City are hoping for a better campaign next season and have identified Yah as a potential replacement for Sam Morsy, who is set to leave the club when his contract expires on June 30. Apparently, the Robbins have reached a verbal agreement with both FC Volendam and the player, after which the midfielder travelled to England to undergo a medical ahead of his unveiling.

If he passes his medical, it will bring an end to his one-year spell with FC Volendam, who he joined from Utrecht last summer after previous stints with the youth teams of DVC Buiksloot and Ajax Amsterdam. Despite Volendam's relegation, Yah enjoyed a decent campaign last season, starting 20 of their 34 Eredivisie matches.

Yah said: "Bristol City's sporting director James Ellis and manager Michael Skubala told me their vision. They told me the plans they have for me and especially the trust they were speaking about.

"I'm here to show them what I can do. I don't like to speak words, so I prefer to show it on the pitch and I will do my best for the club and for the team to make sure I succeed."

New manager Skubala, added: "We're really pleased to bring Gibson to Bristol City. He's an exciting young player with a lot physical and technical attributes that we look for and we are excited to work with him."
