Coventry look to sign another Nigerian midfielder as Lampard eyes Anthony Dennis

NEWLY-promoted English Premier League side Coventry City are closing in on the signing of Nigerian midfielder Anthony Dennis as they continue preparations for their first season back in the top flight.

After an absence of 25 years, Coventry have just won promotion back to the English Premier League after winning the English Championship. Their first signing upon gaining promotion was Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka, who had joined the side on loan from London side Brentford in January and was highly instrumental in getting them promoted.

Now, Coventry are looking to add Dennis, who currently plays for Turkish side Göztepe to their squad as part of the strengthening programme. Dennis, 22, was included in Eric Chelle's preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations but did not make the final tournament squad.

A youth product of Abuja's HB Academy, Dennis joined the academy of the Turkish club Göztepe in January 2023  and was part of their U19 team. He then made his senior and professional debut with Göztepe in a 1–1 draw with Çorum on January 27 2024 and was thereafter promoted to Göztepe's senior side.

On 22 May 2024, he extended his contract with Göztepe until 2027 after helping the club earn promotion to the Süper Lig for the 2024/25 season. After two seasons playing in the Turkish top flight, Dennis has caught the eye of Coventry and could now be on his way to England.
