I am considering running for president next year with a manifesto titled Nigeria’s Operation Tiger Economy which will read something like this

Ayo Akinfe

[1] As from 2027 onwards, Nigeria will have a minimum 10% gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate every year. Any year we fail to enjoy double digit growth we will declare the country as being in recession and introduce austerity measures

[2] There will be zero tolerance for insecurity. A paramilitary agency called the Green Eagles will be established. It will be similar to the US Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) with a mandate to address kidnapping, domestic terrorism, banditry and armed robbery

[3] Within four years, Nigeria will have the capacity to generate, distribute and transmit 20,000MW of electricity

[4] Within four years, every one of our 774 local government areas will be connected to a national railway network. Abuja and Lagos will be connected via a high speed Maglev train line

[5] We will wage a guerrilla war against the divisive cancer of ethnic mistrust. As a first step, as from October 1 2027, your state of birth will be your state of origin

[6] Over a 10-year period we will migrate back to the 1958 Lancaster House formula under which the federating units control all the resources within their domains. States will retain 50% of the revenue raised, pay 20% into the federation account and 15% each to a geo-political zone account and into a national sovereign wealth fund

[7] Nigeria will have an 850km windmill farm stretching from Badagry to Calabar. It will generate at least 5,000MW of clean energy

[8] Our three steel mills at Ajaokuta, Aladja and Oshogbo will be merged into the Nigerian Steel Corporation. It will be sold to a private operator with a mandate to produce at least 20m tonnes of steel annually. No country can industrialise without steel, so this will be at the top of our economic agenda

[9] A Nigerian local government bill will be passed mandating all 774 authorities to operate at least one technical vocational college, a mini power grid and a primary health care centre. Failure to do this will result in the immediate impeachment of the chairman and the withholding of local government allocations

[10] As from January 1 2028, every Nigerian state will be obliged to spend at least 20% of its budget on education. By 2040, we aim to have a 95% literacy level rate as a result of this policy
