SUPER Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke could be on his way to England as Premier League sides Leeds United and Fulham have both initiated talks with his Spanish club Sevilla about bringing him to the Premier League next season.
Ejuke, 24, who was born in Zaria, in northern Nigeria, is a tricky, creative forward, who can play as a winger and also as a playmaker. He came to Europe in 2017, signing for Norwegian side Valeranga in March of that year and since then, he has played in the Netherlands, Russia, Germany, Belgium and Spain.
In July last year, Ejuke joined Sevilla but according to Spanish sports journalist Joel Mendez, the club is now happy to cash in on him, given the interest he is now attracting. Fulham and Leeds United in particular are said to be highly interested in Ejuke as they are eager to bolster their attacks ahead of next season as they both aspire to qualify for Europe.
According to Mr Mendez, however, Bayer Leverkusen and Sunderland are also keen on signing Ejuke, with the Bundesliga giants said to be the most interested in the player. Ejuke has been in and out of the Sevilla starting line-up this season, only managing 1,016 minutes of game-time in 29 outings across all competitions this season, scoring just one goal and only providing one assist.
However, he is still attracting a lot of interest as Fulham for instance are in the market for a winger, as they need to replace Harry Wilson who is leaving. Wilson, a Welsh international has entered the final month of his contract and a summer exit is on the cards despite Fulham’s desire to tie him to a new deal.
As for Leeds United, the Whites do not use wide attackers in Daniel Farke’s preferred 3-5-2 formation but Ejuke’s ability to play centrally makes him an option worth considering. His versatility that enables him to operate as a playmaker, makes him an alternative to US international Brenden Aaronson, who may be leaving as he is seen as a player who lacks the physicality to play in the English Premier League.
