Milwall reject €20m bid for Azeez from newly-promoted Premier League side Ipswich

ENGLISH Championship side Milwall have rejected a €20m bid from newly promoted Premier League team Ipswich Town for Super Eagles Unity Cup hero Femi Azeez who they want to join them ahead of next season.

Azeez, 24, was the star of the show on Tuesday, scoring twice when Nigeria beat Zimbabwe 2-0 in the opening game of the 2026 Unity Cup. Currently plying his trade with Milwall in the second tied of English football, Azeez and his team mates failed to gain promotion to the Premier League despite ending the season in third place, as the lost the play-off to Semi Ajayi's Hull City.

Despite Milwall not being promoted, Azeez enjoyed a successful campaign during the 2025/26 season, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. This form, along with his latest performance for the national team has attracted suitors, with Ipswich being the first to present a formal bid.

However, according to FootballInsider, Milwall want a higher fee for the player who still has two years left on his contract. If anything, Azeez's cost might have gone up over the last few days, as he is now the first Nigerian player to score a brace while making his international debut.

Azeez said: "It’s a good feeling, I guess. It’s an honour. It was the excitement, comfort and expression. The coach gave us the freedom in the final third to do what we want and express ourselves. That’s why we’re here."

On Tuesday, Azeez needed less than five minutes to settle into the game before opening the scoring, showing composure to slot home after he was fed by Terem Moffi.  His performance drew comparisons to Ademola Lookman, particularly with the way he operated just behind the two strikers.

Azeez added: "I've never played that position before, to be honest but I've had a few days of training there and I've really enjoyed it. The management and coaching staff helped me feel my way into the role. As soon as I touched the ball, I was aware of my surroundings and I was able to show what I could do. I enjoyed it a lot."

Last season, Azeez was named in the Championship Team of the Season, which is certain to lead to more being made for him. Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle now faces a decision ahead of next week's friendly against Poland, whether to include Azeez in his travelling squad to Warsaw following his impressive debut display.
