SUPER Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is planning to hold talks with Newcastle United striker William Osula and asking him to switch from Denmark and represent Nigeria at senior international level.
Osula 22, was born in Aarhus, Denmark, to a Danish mother and a Nigerian-French father but the family moved to England when he was a toddler. This technically makes him eligible to feature for four different countries as he holds Danish, French and British passports, although for now, Denmark appear to have the edge.
Seen as a player with a lot of promise, Osula has already featured for Denmark's U19 team and was called up to the senior squad late last year but an injury forced him to withdraw. Not having played for them at senior level, Osula, who once played for Sheffield United, is still eligible to feature for Nigeria.
Danish online media outlet, Tipsbladet, has reported him being approached by the Nigerian Football Association (NFF) over a potential switch. Coach recently Chelle revealed that he will be combing Europe to add more talents to the Super Eagles squad in preparation for the 2027 African Cup of Nations tournament.
Like Nigeria, Denmark failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after losing 3-1 on penalties to the Czech Republic in Prague after a 2-2 draw in the playoff final. With the World Cup out of the picture for both nations, Denmark do not particularly hold an advantage over the NFF in this particular scenario.
Apparently, Osula famously refers to himself as a Naija Boy and even speaks a bit of pidgin English from time to time, calling seasoning cubes Maggi. He has also been seen preparing Nigerian delicacies including pounded yam and Ogbono soup, inviting teammates like Joseph Willock and Isak to share meals with him.
If he agrees to represent Nigeria, Osula will join an array of attacking talent that includes the likes of Victor Osimhen, Akor Adams, Paul Onuachu, Victor Boniface, Kelechi Iheanacho, Cyriel Dessers, Sadiq Umar and Tolu Arokodare. However, one thing going for him is his age, as he is the youngest of the lot.
