Kaye Furo makes his competitive debut for Brentford following his January move from Belgium

NIGERIA-eligible teenage striker Kaye Furo has made his competitive debut for English Premier League side Brentford featuring in their FA Cup fourth round match against Macclesfield following his recent move from Club Brugge in Belgium.

In January, Kaye, 19, signed a five-and-a-half year contract with Brentford bringing about an end to his nine year stint at Belgian side Club Brugge. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches tall and looking like a typical English targetman, Kaye is the son of former Super Eagles defender Iyenemi Furo.

On Monday this week, Brentford head coach Keith Andrews, included Kaye in the team's starting line-up for the FA Cup game. Brentford went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to an own goal by Macclesfield defender Sam Heathcote in the second half, enabling them to  advance the FA Cup fifth round.

Kaye developed through Club Brugge’s academy and has represented Belgium at youth international level. Following his debut, Furo will focus on earning more opportunities in domestic cup competitions and the Premier League as he continues his development with Brentford this season.

His appearance marks an important milestone in the career of the young forward, who is following in the footsteps of his father. Furo Iyenemi, helped Nigeria finish second at the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations and also played for the Dream Team II at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia that year.

Born in Okrika, Rivers State, Kaye grew up in Belgium, so is this eligible to represent both nations at international level. At the moment, Kaye is leaning towards playing for Belgium, having already played for their U15 and U16 teams and recently made his first competitive appearance with the U17 squad in a Uefa European Championship match against Finland.

He later played for the U18 and U19 teams and finally made his debut with the U21 team in September 2025. This means that to play for Nigeria at senior level and represent the Super Eagles, Kaye will have to undergo a switch with global footballing body Fifa.
