Super Falcons striker Joy Omewa joins Women's Super League Two side Nottingham Forest

SUPER Falcons striker Joy Omewa has joined English Women's Super League (WSL) Two side Nottingham Forest from Danish club Fortuna Hjørring until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Omewa, 23, started her career in Nigeria with Confluence Queens in Lokoja, Nigeria, before joining Danish side Boldklubben in April 2021. She then secured a move to Fortuna Hjørring in November 2021, where she has scored more than 50 goals in her five years there and on June 13, 2025, she was recognised as Player of the Season in the Danish Women's League.

Now, revered across Europe, Omewa helped Fortuna Hjørring win the Danish Women’s Cup twice and Kvindeligaen league title in the 2024/25 season. Internationally, Omewa won her first senior cap for Nigeria last year, having already represented the country at U17 and U20 levels.

Nottingham Forest head coach Carly Davies said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Joy Omewa to Nottingham Forest. Joy’s incredible goalscoring prowess speaks for itself.

"She’s a dynamic forward with a natural instinct in front of goal and her ability to find the net consistently at both club and international level makes her a fantastic addition to our squad. Joy is exactly the type of player who can help us push forward and achieve our ambitions.”

Forest are currently sixth in WSL2, the second tier of English football, level on points with Newcastle United. They have two tough games coming up against the sides at the top of the table, first away to second-placed Birmingham City on Sunday, February 1 and then league leaders Charlton Athletic at home on Sunday, February 8.

Omewa said: “I am delighted to sign for Nottingham Forest. It’s an ambitious club and I’m excited to be a part of this team. I can’t wait to get started for this club and I think I can add a lot to an already talented group at Forest.”

During the 2024/25 season, Omewa set herself apart with her scoring, netting 14 goals and four assists in only 17 league games by mid-April. By the end of the 2024/25 season, both her and the club won a domestic double, wining  both the Danish Women's League and the Women's Cup.
