NIGERIAN celebrity chef Hilda Bassey has been officially recognised as a three-time Guinness World Book of Records holder after her latest feat of cooking the largest serving of rice last September was accepted as a global benchmark.
Bassey, 30, burst into the limelight in May 2023 when she set a world record for cooking after spending 93 hours and11 minutes in the kitchen. Later that year, Irish chef Alan Fisher surpassed her record but in September last year, Hilda set two new records in one go by cooking the largest quantity of jollof rice at once and also cooking the largest serving of rice ever.
Yesterday, Hilda revealed that the Guinness World Book of Records has officially recognised the two benchmarks she set in September 2025. Hilda took to her Instagram page and updated her bio to read Chef X3 Guinness World Record Holder.
“Woke up a three-time Guinness World Records holder and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. What a way to step into 2026,” Hilda wrote.
Apparently, the Guinness World Book of Records team informed Hilda through an email from Andrew Fanning, their head of client partnering, that her attempt at the largest serving of jollof rice had simultaneously broken another record. Reacting to the announcement, Hilda said she was both shocked and thrilled.
Mr Fanning wrote: “Congratulations, you are officially amazing (again)! It has come to our attention when comparing record guidelines of the two record titles, that when you and your team attempted and achieved the4 largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, you also achieved the record title of largest serving of rice."
Hilda added: “This morning, I was just doing my usual routine, casually scrolling through my emails, when I saw the message come in. I was shocked and happy at the same time, completely caught off guard. Five months after the initial record announcement, I was just finding out that there was more."
She credited her team for the record, particularly Oreoluwa Atinmo, describing their collaboration as crucial to the success and also praised God for guiding her journey and providing unexpected blessings. Hilda concluded by thanking the Guinness World Book of Records, her team and supporters for making the achievements possible.
