K1 Ultimate writes to Ijebu kingmakers saying he wants to be considered as the next Awujale

FUJI musician Wasiu Ayinde popularly known as Kwam1 or K1 De Ultimate has written to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu Ode declaring an interest in becoming the next Awujale of Ijebuland .

On July 13, this year, the Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona passed away at the age of 91 and the traditional kingmakers are now in the process of naming a new monarch. At the Awujale's death Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State said it was indeed a double sadness that Oba Adetona joined his ancestors the same day that President Muhammadu Buhari died in a London hospital.

With the process to crown a new monarch now underway, Wasiu has made his intention known in a letter dated Wednesday December 3, 2025. In the letter, he said his decision aligns with the provisions of the Ogun State chieftaincy laws and the Ijebu customary laws and traditions.

Wasiu, 68, who traced his eligibility to his royal lineage of the Jadiara line to the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Agunsebi Quarters, cited his 50 years of cultural advocacy through his music as a positive that made him eligible for the throne.

In his letter, Wasiu explained that he was born on 3 March 1957 and is a bonafide son of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, tracing his ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage. According to him, this lineage qualifies him to present himself for consideration, in line with established tradition.

He wrote: “I, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan Anifowoshe, formally notify the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of my intention to be considered for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland."

Wasiu noted that he had used his career and public engagements to promote Ijebu culture and values. He also recalled that he was conferred with the chieftaincy titles of Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu in 2023 by the late Awujale, Oba Adetona.

His declaration comes as the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has been formally asked to begin the process of selecting qualified candidates for the stool. Confirming the receipt of the letter of interest by Wasiu, Abdul Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, the chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, said he has sent Wasiu an appropriate response.
