Leeds join the list of clubs looking to bring Onyedika to the Premier League this summer

ENGLISH Premier league giants Leeds United have set their sights on signing Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika before the close of the current summer transfer window as part of an ambitious plan to challenge for honours next season.

Historically, Leeds have been one of the biggest names in English football and having just been promoted back to the Premier League, the club is looking to reclaim its glory days of the 1970s. Armed with a £150m budget, Leeds manager Daniel Farke has been busy in the market, already signing winger Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer from Wolfsburg  and  agreeing a deal with Udinese to sign midfielder Jaka Bijol for £19m.

Keen to challenge the big boys for a European slot at the top of the table, Leeds are now looking to strengthen by signing Onyedika from Belgian side Club Brugge. For instance, Mr Farke is said to be prepared to smash Leeds United’s club record transfer, which remains the £35m signing of Georginio Rutter in 2023, by paying as much to get striker Rodrigo Muniz from Fulham.

Onyedika, 24, is reported to be on the radar of West ham United but this morning, Leeds stepped up their interest in him and a formal bid is expected to be made soon. According to Belgian news outlet Voetbal Nieuws, Onyedika’s exit from Club Brugge is a foregone conclusion and it is simply a matter of finding out where he goes and for how much.

Said to be on the radar of Tottenham Hotspurs too, Onyedika is physical, can pass the ball really well and is a fine tackler, with excellent work rate to go with it.  He is valued at only around €20m on Transfermarkt, so would be within the price range of most Premier League clubs.
