Boko Haram return to Yobe State killing mobile policeman and burning down district head's palace

BOKO Haram insurgents appear to be enjoying a resurgence across northeastern Nigeria after they carried out a series of attacks in Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State over the weekend.

 

In a ghastly attack that resulted in a significant loss of lives and the destruction of property, the insurgents attacked the village of Kukareta, located 17km away from Damaturu, the state capital. During the onslaught, a mobile policeman and two civilians were killed, while the district head’s palace, situated on the Damaturu-Maiduguri Road, was set ablaze.

 

Eyewitnesses report revealed that the attackers descended upon homes, looting food items and burning houses. Retired Major General Dahiru Abdulsalam the Yobe State security adviser, confirmed that suspected Boko Haram terrorists carried out the assault, burnt down the Kukareta district head's palace and set ablaze two patrol vehicles belonging to security personnel.

 

He added: “We lost three people, including a police mobile officer who died of a gunshot wound during the attack."General Abdulsalam urged the people of the area to continue supporting the security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and security.
