NIGERIA'S senate has eventually passed the 2017 budget some five months into the year following the adoption of a report by the joint National Assembly Committee on Appropriations.



Former president's son sentenced to eight months in jail for stealing Samsung mobile phone

FORMER Zambian president's son Frederick Chiluba Junior has been sentenced to eight months imprisonment with hard labour by a magistrates’ court in Lusaka for stealing a mobile phone.


Between 1991 and 2001, Frederick Chiluba governed Zambia, taking over from the long-serving Kenneth Kaunda who led the country to independence in 1964. His rule was dogged by corruption allegations, leading to his immunity from prosecution being lifted after he left office.

Commercial bus driver commits suicide over his inability to repay cooperative society loan

ONDO commercial bus driver simply identified only as Ayokunle has committed suicide at Oke Ibukun in Ondo town of Ondo State after it dawned on him that he would be unable to repay a loan he took from a cooperative society.


According to an eyewitness, Ayokunle, who was found dead in his room over the weekend,  took his own life by drinking poison.  The source said the deceased Ayokunle was an executive member of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the town.
