As soon as he returns from abroad I would like to see President Tinubu appoint a minister for animal husbandry and aquaculture with a mandate to dramatically expand production of the following animals

Ayo Akinfe

[1] Cattle

[2] Snails

[3] Pigs

[4] Poultry

[5] Mackerel

[6] Goats

[7] Turkeys

[8] Ducks

[9] Grass cutters

[10] Impala

[1] I would ringfence this sector and give it a minimum target of generating $20bn in foreign exchange earnings by 2030

[2] This ministry for animal husbandry and aquaculture would be responsible for liaising with state governors over the provision of land for all these sectors

The antidote to being humiliated and disrespected the way Venezuela has just been treated is for a nation to become economically independent and militarily strong. I hope this episode has got President Tinubu thinking like this

[3] Food processing - $20bn

[4] Animal husbandry - $10bn

[5] Aviation - $20bn

[6] Clean energy - $20bn

[8] Information and communication technology - $20bn

With 2026 now underway, I hope Gboyega Oyetola, the minister for marine affairs and the blue economy has a roadmap to make the sector a money spinner this year

Ayo Akinfe

[1] First of all, it should be the minister’s responsibility to build an 850km windmill wall along Nigeria’s Atlantic coastline. He should get Nigeria into the Guinness Book of Records as the nation with the world’s latest windmill farm

[2] Secondly, it is the minister’s job to turn Nigeria into a maritime power. This should lead to the location of shipyards along the Nigerian coastline, especially in the Niger Delta

I would love to see our solid minerals minister set foreign direct investment and production targets for 2026 designed to make the sector a big revenue earner this year

Ayo Akinfe

[1] Nigeria needs to generate about $100bn annually to fund her infrastructural development. Sadly, we only have an annual budget of about $30bn. If President Tinubu wants to break the cycle, he simply has to give his ministers production quotas and revenue targets

President Tinubu should regard 2026 as a breakthrough year and as part of this plan enter into a shipbuilding and maritime pact with Britain

Ayo Akinfe

[1] I have always regarded the 1851 capture of Lagos as the date when the British colonisation of Nigeria began. That was the year when John Beecroft the British consul of the Bights of Benin and Biafra, lined up his naval gunboats off the coast of Lagos and forced Oba Akintoye to sign a treaty of protection handing over the city to Britain
