Tobacco trader shot in the head and killed in Ilorin for refusing to sell cultists a pack of cigarettes

ARMED gunmen believed to be cult members in the Kwara State capital Ilorin have killed a tobacco trader shooting him in the head for allegedly refusing to sell a pack of cigarettes to them.

In an unprecedented development, the trader identified simply as MM, was shot at his shop in the Gaa Akanbi area of Ilorin by one of the suspected cult members after the assailants  went there to buy cigarettes. MM allegedly said he had run out of stock, even when one of the gunmen pointed to a pack of cigarettes in the shop.

However, the trader was said to have told the suspected cult members that the pack had been bought by another customer. This angered them and one of them took out a pistol and fired the lethal shots that killed the trader.

One eyewitness said: “The cult members were enraged when he told them that the man that bought the cigarettes was on his way to collect them. One of them pulled out his gun and shot MM in the head.”

He added that while MM lay there dying, the cult members went into the shop, took the pack of cigarettes and fled. Police spokesman Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the killing, adding that the Kwara State Police Command is still investigating the incident.
