ONLINE news media outlet Sahara Reporters has reported that Nigeria's new president-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has been flown out of the country for medical treatment after he fell ill last weekend.
On Saturday, Nigerians went to the polls to elect governors and the members of state houses of assemblies and apparently, Asiwaju Tinubu, who was elected on February 25, took ill during the last minute campaigns. According to Sahara Reporters, Asiwaju Tinubu left for Europe on the night of Tuesday March 21 after he fell ill on Saturday and was attended to by local doctors.
Although all this is yet to be officially verified, it is reported that Asiwaju Tinubu initially requested that his foreign doctors be brought down to Nigeria while election matters are still raging. However, he was said to have been flown out last night because his deteriorating health condition.
Once source said: “Tinubu has left for Europe for medical care. He fell ill after voting on Saturday during the Lagos guber election. He was attended to by local doctors but he has left for Europe for proper medical care.
“He initially said his doctors should be brought down to Nigeria for him and that when things die down, he would leave but I've confirmed that he left on Tuesday night because he is definitely ill. His plane Falcon 9X with registration number VP-CBT can’t be tracked by air flight tracking websites."
On Saturday, Asiwaju Tinubu cast his vote at his polling unit in Lagos and shared photos of himself voting on his Instagram page. He subsequently wrote: “I just joined other Nigerians in exercising my civic duty in the ongoing governorship and state assembly elections. I encourage you all to go out and vote peacefully."
Between 2020 and 2022, Asiwaju Tinubu spent over four months in hospitals in France, the US and the UK, where he underwent several surgeries. His most recent surgery was on August 9 2021 when he had another knee surgery at the John Hopkins University Hospital in Maryland, the US.
