Falz condemns Sanwoolu's victory in Lagos saying he was not elected but selected himself

MUSICIAN and lawyer Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz has dismissed the recent re-election if Governor Babajide Sanwoolu in Lagos State as not representing the will of the people but the elite merely selecting themselves.

On Saturday, Lagosians went to the polls to elect a governor in what was a two-horse race between incumbent Governor Sanwoolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party. In what was a very acrimonious contest, voting was marred by misdeeds such as voter intimidation, the use of cultural festivals to deter voting and the snatching of ballot boxes.

Earlier today, the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) declared Governor Sanwoolu the winner of the contest having polled a total of 762,134 votes to win the election for a second term of four years. Mr Rhodes-Vivour came second with 312,329 votes, while Olajide Adediran the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailed in third place with 62,449 votes.

However, Falz took to Twitter to condemn the exercise. He wrote:  “You were not re-elected, you selected yourself. Everybody saw it unfold. You are only deceiving yourselves.”

Mobolaji Sanusi,  the immediate past managing director and of the Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency, however, congratulated Governor Sanwoolu on his victory. He described the governor's re-election as a vote of confidence the people of the state had in his leadership and administrative acumen.

Apparently, Governor Sanwoolu won in 19 of the 20 local government areas in the state in an election that is almost certain to be contested by the opposition. During the presidential elections, the Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, secured more votes in Lagos State than the APC candidate former governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
