Premier League giants Leeds United plan summer move for former Arsenal schoolboy Chuba Akpom

ENGLISH Premier League giants Leeds United are planning to launch a summer move for Middlesboro striker Chuba Akpom as part of an ambitious plan to strengthen their forward line which is currently struggling to score goals.

Once considered the most exciting team in the English Premier League, Leeds are currently in trouble, stuck in the relegation zone. With goals proving hard to come by, United are planning that once they manage to avoid the drop, their forward line will be reinforced in the summer and Akpom is one of those being considered for this purpose.

Akpom, 27, has been in blistering form this season, scoring 23 goals so far, putting Boro in contention for promotion, as they currently sit in third place. There are already indications that he will soon be called up for Nigeria on the back of his current form, as the English-born striker has indicated that he is .committed to the Super Eagles at senior international level.

His agent said: "We haven't heard from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) but maybe an invitation has been sent to his club. He is committed to playing for Nigeria and whenever he is called up, he will give his best to the team."

Apart from the NFF and Leeds United, several other Premier League teams are also monitoring Akpom, with Crystal Palace and Everton also said to be interested in him. Former Arsenal academy player Akpom is looking to playing in the Premier League, especially after his failed spell at the Emirates.
