Man United's Maximilian Oyedele says he has no regrets choosing Poland over Nigeria

MANCHESTER United's Nigeria-eligible midfielder Maximilian Oyedele has declared that  he has no regrets over his decision to commit his international future to his motherland Poland rather than the Super Eagles.

Born in Manchester to a Polish mother and Nigerian father, the 2022 FA Youth Cup-winning player, qualifies to wear the jerseys of Nigeria, England and Poland. However, he has opted for the nation of his mother and became provisionally cap-tied to Poland when he came off the bench in a European U19 Championship qualifier against Bosnia in September 2022.

With his appearance against the Bosnians, it means Oyedele has to request for a change of association should he decide to play for Nigeria or England in future as long as he does not make a competitive appearance for Poland's senior national team. However, the 18-year-old appears to have shut the doors on playing for Nigeria and England for the time being.

Oyedele said: "The Polish federation was the first to express an interest in me and invited me to a training camp and to a national team match. I wanted to try my hand at the international arena and I've only had a few meetings behind me but I'm happy with the decision I made."

Moving forward, Oyedele has been named in Poland's squad for the European U19 Championship qualifiers taking place later this month. Poland will face Israel on March 22, Latvia on March 25 and Serbia on March 28 as they aim to qualify for this summer's U19 Euro in Malta.
