Dino Melaye arrested by securitymen at Abuja international airport while on his way to Morocco

SECURITYMEN have arrested embattled and controversial Kogi West lawmaker Senator Dino Melaye at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as he was about to board a plane to Morocco.

Over recent weeks, Senator Melaye has been at the centre of a storm amid reports that the police had issued a warrant for his arrest. Several weeks ago, the senator was said to have been declared wanted alongside Mohammed Audu, son of a former Kogi State governor Abubakar Audu.

According to the police, the duo Police have also been placed on the Interpol watchlist for allegedly providing false information in relation to an allegation of an attempt on Senator Melaye’s life sometime last year. Despite the so-called arrest warrant being issued, Senator Melaye has continued to carry out his functions,. however.

In several instances, he was even seen at high profile public events, where among other things, police protection was provided and even guards of honour mounted. This morning, however, it appears that orders came from above to arrest the senator and police at the airport acted.

This morning, Senator Melaye tweeted: “I have just been arrested at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport on my way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the federal government after checking in.”

It is not yet clear if the senator will be charged to court or not. Over recent months, Senator Melaye has been fighting battles on several fronts, trying to fend of moves to recall him and has been involved in several public spats with Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello.
