Keyamo dismisses Bloomberg poll which names Peter Obi as favourite to win next year's election

ALL Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign spokesman Festus Keyamo has dismissed as laughable a recent Bloomberg pool which indicated that former Anambra State governor Peter Obi is favourite to win Nigeria's forthcoming presidential election.

In February next year, Nigeria goes to the polls to elect a new president, with the ruling APC selecting former Lagos State governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as its candidate and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) going for former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.  Governor Obi of the Labour Party and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) are the other major frontrunners in the election.

Yesterday, a Bloomberg poll indicated that  Governor Obi was ahead of all the other contestants and is the most favoured candidate ahead of the 2023 presidential election. However, Mr Keyamo, Nigeria's minister of state for labour and employment and the Tinubu Shettima campaign council spokesman, criticised the poll saying it was faulty and lacked credibility.

Bloomberg had said Governor Obi is most-favoured among all the contestants as he came tops in the choices of prospective voters, saying 72% named him as their preferred candidate. Also, the poll revealed that candidates of the APC and PDP fared less well, adding that Bola Tinubu of the APC garnered 16% of decided voters, while Atiku Abubakar of the PDP tailed with 9%.

Reacting to the poll, Mr Keyamo said it was the worst mistaken poll he has ever seen. he wrote: “The report of Bloomberg Africa said it used an app to conduct an opinion poll in Nigeria where more than 95% don’t have access to such apps.

"This style is even lower in credibility than when you send people to the field. This is the most delusional poll I have seen since I was born.”
