Team Nigeria ends Commonwealth Games in highest-ever standing of seventh position

TEAM Nigeria has ended the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in the highest position ever since competing in the tournament occupying seventh position with a total of 35 medals that included 12 gold.

Originally known as the British Empire Games, the tournament was participated in by 72 nations who were all once British colonies. Today, the tournament closed officially Nigeria with Nigeria winning 12 gold, nine silver and 14 bronze medals, all of them won by the nation's female competitors.

This year's goal medal haul beats that of previous years as in 2018, Team Nigeria went home with nine gold, nine silver and six bronze medals. In 2014, the team won 11 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals, while in 2010, the medals haul was 11 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze.

Making these games more memorable was the fact that certain Nigerian athletes set tournament records in their respective disciplines. Tobu Amusan set a games record of 12.30 in the women's 100 metres hurdles and Ese Brume jumped a tournament record of 7 metres on the women's long jump, while Goodness Nwachukwu threw a record 36.56m in the women's para discuss event.
