English Premiership side Newcastle United aim to sign Super Eagles winger Simon Moses before the World Cup

SUPER Eagles winger Moses Simon looks set to join the English Premier League next season following a string interest in him from Newcastle United who have already opened talks with his Belgian club Gent.

Simon, 23, who is expected to be in action today when Gent take on Anderlecht in the Belgium play-offs has been scouted by Newcastle United and officials from the club are expected to be present for today's game too.  On Tuesday, the head of recruitment of the English Premier League side who are battling relegation, were at Barnet’s Hive stadium where Nigeria lost 0-2 to Serbia in a pre World Cup friendly to watch Simon.

Newcastle United want to complete his signing before the World Cup to avoid a bidding war if he excels at the tournament in the summer. Gent are keen on doing business as he has a little over a year to go on his current contract.

Meanwhile, former Flying Eagles skipper Abdul Ajagun scored one of the goals that gave Kortrijk a 4-1 win over Waasland-Beveren as the Belgium play-offs began yesterday. Ajagun, 25, who captained Nigeria to the 2013 U20 World Cup,  ‎scored in the 73rd minute over yesterday's match  in their opening game of the play-offs.

He now has four goals this season, one short of his last season's tally. His new found form has led to speculation about a move away from the modest Belgium side.
