Terrorist group Ansaru bans political campaigns in the Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State

ARMED hoodlums have declared several parts of Kaduna State political-free zones with the terrorist group Ansaru issuing a ban on campaigns in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area that borders with neighbouring Niger State.

Kaduna State has been on the receiving end of some of the worst religious-based terrorism in Nigeria lately with heavily armed Muslim extremists terrorising large swathes of the state. Originally, this started off in the southeastern Christian part of the state in the Kafanchan and Kachia areas but of late, it has spread to the Birnin Gwari area in the southwest that borders Niger State and leads to Ilorin and the southwest.

According to Senator Shehu Sani, the former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, criminal elements terrorising parts of Kaduna State have reportedly issued a ban on political campaigns. He cautioned politicians planning to launch campaigns in the Birnin Gwari axis of the state to be security conscious.

Senator Sani tweeted: “The terror group, Ansaru in Kaduna State reportedly issued a ban on political campaigns. That is how audacious they have become. Politicians who must go out for campaigns in the Birnin Gwari axis should be security conscious.”

Recently,  gunmen suspected to be bandits stormed the Keke A and Keke B areas of New Millennium City in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday and abducted six persons and the wife of a military officer. Of late, these bandits have become so brazen and confident that they event attack military facilities like the Nigerian Defence Academy.
