Ipob names those behind kidnapping across southeast saying they have been expelled from its ranks

SECESSIONIST group the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) has published the names of several individuals it believes are behind the ongoing spare of kidnappings across the southeast geo-political zone in a bid to dispel speculation that its members are involved.

Of late, insecurity, armed attacks on police stations and kidnapping have become rife across the southeast with the security forces blaming in on Ipob. Created as Ipob's armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) with responsibility for confronting armed Fulani herdsmen, has been singled out as being behind the violence.

Ipob has long claimed that the hoodlums carrying out these attacks were hired by state governors across the southeast and were not members of its ESN. Backing this assertion up, Ipob spokesman Emma Powerful, said that the group is working towards exposing those behind the ongoing criminalities in Anambra, Enugu, and Imo states.

Mr Powerful added: “In Abia State particularly, a certain Nkechi Kalu and her gang of about eight kidnap members operating between Abia State and Igweocha, Rivers State are not Ipob members. They and their activities should not be associated with Ipob family membership.

“In Enugu State, a certain group of criminal elements turned themselves into enemies of the people and the names of their gang leaders are as follows Chocho and Mazi Ejiofor. They are not Ipob members and anybody associating with them is a confirmed criminal."

He added that the above-named persons who were formerly Ipob members were expelled as a result of indiscipline and insubordination which is not tolerated. It is not clear if Ipob will move against these individuals or of they will leave it to the security forces.
