Governor Umahi says Ebonyi will not vote for Peter Obi despite him being Igbo but for Tinubu

GOVERNOR David Umahi of Ebonyi State has advised voters in his state to cast their votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and shun former Anambra State governor Peter Obi despite him being Igbo.

Last week, Asiwaju Tinubu emerged as the APC's presidential candidate after winning a landslide victory in which he swept aside an impressive field of opponents that included Governor Umahi. With the primaries now over, the main contenders in Nigeria's forthcoming elections will be Asiwaju Tinubu of the APC, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Speaking in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital yesterday while swearing-in two new commissioners, Governor Umahi said Ebonyians will vote for the APC in the 2023 presidential election. Accusing APC delegates in the southeast of selling their votes, Governor Umahi the states that the Labour Party has helped should vote for Governor Obi.

Governor Umahi added: “Our party is APC and not the Labour Party. We will not vote for the Labour Party, we will vote for APC. The states that the Labour Party has helped should vote for them.

“The agenda of God for Ebonyi State is that is what you should be telling them when they come to ask you, who you will vote for. Tell them not to look for our votes, our votes belong to APC.”
