Olisa Metuh faces possible forgery and perjury charges after London hospital denies writing his health letter

FORMER Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) publicity secretary Chief Olisa Metuh could be facing perjury and forgery charges after a London hospital disassociated itself from a letter he presented in court claiming it write saying it was a forgery.

Earlier this month, Chief Metuh asked an Abuja high court to grant him permission to travel to the UK for medical treatment despite facing corruption charges. He presented a letter to the court purported to have been written by doctors at the reputable Wellington Hospital in London.

In a new twist, however the hospital has disassociated itself from the doctor's medical report that Chief Metuh tendered in court. In the letter the former PDP spokesman presented to court, one Dr Adrian Casey had claimed that he is a neurosurgeon working with Wellington Hospital and wrote that Chief Metuh needed to be treated urgently in the UK.

However, an investigation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the UK revealed that the said Dr Casey is not an employee of the hospital as claimed in the court proceedings. In an email correspondence between the UK party's anti-corruption unit and the chief executive of Wellington, the hospital clearly disowned Dr Casey and went further to say that the hospital never employed consultants.

It now appears that the hospital is not aware of letter tendered in Abuja court in its name and Dr Casey appears to be just a private consultant to Chief Metuh and not employed by Wellington Hospital. When next Chief Metuh appears in court, he may face perjury and forgery charges for this latest twist.

Chief Metuh is facing corruption charges after the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) alleged that before the 2015 presidential elections, he received N400m from the Office of the National Security Adviser without executing any contract. During his last appearance, Chief Metuh came to court in a wheelchair, claiming that his health had deteriorated in the past two months and he requires urgent medical attention from his doctors in London.
