Players start arriving as Super Eagles camp opens ahead of Poland and Serbia friendly matches

SEVERAL Super Eagles players have already landed in camp ahead of the forthcoming two friendlies against Poland and Serbia taking place in Wroclaw and London on March 23 and 27 respectively.

As part of preparations for the summer World Cup taking place in Russia this summer, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has organised two friendly games during this latest Fifa window. In what is the last window before the end of the season, the team will travel to Wroclaw to play the Poles in March 23 and then will return to London to face Serbia at Barnet's the Hives Stadium four days later.

Already, Troost-Ekong, Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Leon Balogun and Brian Idowu have arrived at the Wroclaw camp ahead of Friday's game, jetting into Poland yesterday. An official NFF tweet confirmed that the camp is already bubbling.

The tweet said: “Our camp ahead of Friday’s pre World Cup friendly vs Poland at the Municipal Stadium, Wroclaw, opened today. Troost Ekong, Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Tyronne Ebuehi, Brian Idowu and Leon Balogun were the early Eagles."

Coach Gernot Rohr had invited a total of 28 players for the two international friendly matches and Ogenyi Onazi and John Ogu are expected to be among the next batch to report to camp. Serbian midfielder, Nemanja Matic, has said that Nigeria is blessed with good players and he is looking forward to facing the Super Eagles on March 27.

Matic, a former Chelsea player, who now plies his trade with Manchester United, was named the new assistant captain of the Serbia national team by Coach Mladen Krstajic ahead of the game. Matic said the Super Eagles are a good side and playing against them will be an encounter to enjoy.

“Let’s see in these two games where we are. Nigeria is good, I know some of their players and it will be a game to enjoy,” he added.

As a Chelsea player, Matic played alongside Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Ola Aina at Stamford Bridge before he switched to United last season. Matic has also faced Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo in English Premier League encounters.
