Sunday Igboho arrested at Cotonou airport as he tries to board a flight to Germany

YORUBA Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo currently being sought by the Nigerian security services is believed to have been arrested at Cotonou in neighbouring Benin Republic as he tried to board a flight to Europe.

On July 1, the Department of State Security (DSS) raided Mr Adeyemo's Ibadan home but he managed to escape and 13 of his aides were arrested and are due to be charged with various offences. During the raid, Mr Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, lost two of his aides, who were shot dead but he managed to escape and the DSS has since declared him a wanted man.

Apparently, he was arrested at the airport in Cotonou yesterday night about three weeks after he was declared wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms. It is expected that he will be repatriated to Nigeria on today after which he will be handed over to the DSS and probably be charged.

One security source added: “He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany and the security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday."

DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, had at a briefing on July 1, vowed that Igboho may run as far as he can and he may hide as long as he want but this will be the end of his shenanigans. Mr Igboho had been accused of engaging in activities threatening the corporate existence of the country.
