Ngige tells Ipob to stop mentioning his name in connection with the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu

NIGERIA'S labour minister Dr Chris Ngige has warned the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (Ipob) to stop mentioning his name in connection with the recent arrest of its leader Nnamdi Kanu saying he has nothing to do with security matters.

Last week, Ipob spokesman Emma Powerful named Dr Ngige as one of those Igbos who helped facilitate the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu. Warning that if anything happens to Mr Kanu, all those Igbos involved in his arrest would be held responsible, Mr Powerful also named businessman Emeka Offor, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State and his Rivers State counterpart Governor Nyesom Wike as culpable.

Responding to being named, Dr Ngige said he does not have the time to involve himself with security and diplomatic matters. He also described the attempt by Mr Powerful, to link him with Mr Kanu’s arrest as deceitful, mischievous, malicious and wicked.

A spokesman for the minister said: “Ngige is occupied, involved and engrossed with his duties as the labour and employment minister, being a member of the Federal Cabinet Committee for Economic Recovery and a member of the Economic Sustainability Committee constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari, which is headed by vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo, with the mandate to tackle the challenges and fallouts of Covid-19. It is, therefore, unthinkable that somebody with grey matter in his brain, except if he is hallucinating like the Ipob spokesman, could accuse a very busy minister like Senator Ngige of being part of a conspiracy for the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu."

Meanwhile, veteran actress Rita Edochie has said she believes Biafra will become the world’s best country under the leadership of Mr Kanu. She expressed hope about the actualisation of Biafra, adding that sooner than later it would come to pass.

Ms Edochie said: “With what I have seen, Biafra is sure and there is no two ways about it. It’s just a question of time and I know Biafra will be the world’s best country with our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu."
