Former Nigerian Army provost marshal killed by gunmen to be buried today in Abuja

FORMER provost marshal of the Nigerian Army Major General Hassan Ahmed who was killed by gunmen in Abuja yesterday is to be buried today in accordance with full Muslim rites at the Lungi Barracks Cemetery today.

 

Major General Ahmed, who in a recent shake-up was appointed as a director at the Nigerian Army headquarters in Abuja, was shot by gunmen in the Abaji Area Council of Abuja yesterday while on his way back from Okene in Kogi State. He and his wife were in the car along with a driver when they ran into the gunmen.

 

One military source said: “They opened fire on his vehicle and he died. The driver pretended to be dead from the wound he sustained,”

 

Nigerian Army spokesman Brigadier Onyema Nwachukwu, said: “With a heavy heart, the chief of army staff, Lt General Farouk Yahaya, officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army regret to announce the passing on of Major General Hassan Ahmed, a former provost marshal of the Nigerian Army. The sad incident occurred when the senior officer’s vehicle was attacked by gunmen while transiting along Lokoja-Abuja road yesterday July 15, 2021.

 

“The remains of the deceased senior officer will be accorded a befitting burial at the Lungi Barracks Cemetery on Friday16 July 2021 by 10am. A delegation from army headquarters led by the chief of policy and plans, Major General Anthony Omozoje, has visited the widow and other members of the bereaved family."
