Atiku steps up his presidential electoral campaign with the pursuit of PDP delegates

FORMER vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has stepped up his 2019 presidential campaign as his supporters have launched an Operation Woo Your Delegates programmed aimed at attracting members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Last year, Alhaji Atiku defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), rejoining the PDP, of which he was a founding member and served as vice president under. With presidential elections due next year and President Muhammadu Buhari likely to seek the APC ticket, Alhaji Atiku has joined the PDP, hoping to become its presidential candidate.

Yesterday, supporters of the former vice president the Atiku Global Support Group (AGSG), launched the new campaign in Abuja. Alhaji Gambo Jagindi, the AGSG national coordinator, said that the era of imposition of candidates was over in the PDP, adding that the campaign was created to creatively seek the vote of delegates.

He added: “As a pro-Atiku group, we have a task to do because we are not going to wait for our principal to take the burden of winning the party primaries all alone. We perceive this as costly and too risky for a well networked group and serious group like AGSG.

“This blueprint is born out of our desire to contribute to the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the PDP flag bearer in 2018 slated for 2019 general elections. The group was working round the clock to win the support of both members of PDP and other electorate to actualise the political ambition of Atiku.”

Alhaji Jagindi said that it was time for an Atiku presidency, as since the days of the Social Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku’s stood for a prosperous country that offered opportunities for all. He said Alhaji Atiku's position on restructuring the country resonated with the wishes of a greater majority.

According to Alhaji Jagindi, Alhaji Atiku understood the dynamics that would shape and deliver on the effective development of our country, Nigeria. He advised members of the group to be law abiding and civil in their approach in the course of canvassing support for the former vice president among the people at the grassroots.
